Horse parents, helping other horse parents...

Who we are

Equine Automation built its first feeder in 2009. The original unit was designed to aid in the treatment of our own horse who suffered from Insulin Resistance and Cushing’s Disease. At the time we were unable to source a feeder that met the requirements we desired for optimal feeding media and schedules.

Now, over 10 years later, the X5-CD Feed Dispenser is available for sale as a fully engineered and on it’s 3rd improved design. It’s a field tested and proven device for use by anyone wishing to care for their animal in the best way possible.

At Equine Automation we strive to provide the safest, most versatile, highest quality, best valued product on the market today. We have field tested our product for over two years under extreme New England conditions, from frigid snowy winters to sweltering summer heat and drenching downpours. We are proud to offer this tool for aiding and controlling the multitude of dietary requirements found throughout the horse and large animal community.

THE HISTORY OF OUR FEEDER

Prototype Stage 2008 - 2009

Original all steel unit made for our own personal use.

Early development of first composite unit

First composite Feeder Drum development – MOLDED

How it started

Generation I: 2010 - 2011

The first goal was to improve the physical design and make the unit modular for uniform building.

  • Fabricated Feeder Drum – Cost effective and increased capacity
  • Composite construction – lacking robustness and bulky adding cost and hi shipping fees
  • Control system fully hardwired and not field service friendly
  • Battery in undesirable location

Generation II: 2014 – 2015

Generation 2’s goal was to improve functionality and serviceability.  This was also when we introduced a solar option.

  • Reconfiguration of Control System to improve manufacturability and field service
  • Battery relocated for easier owner access and distanced from horse access
  • Multiple hardware improvements

Generation III: 2017-Current

Our latest generation proved to improve on both design and functionality.

  • Cabinet redesigned for superior strength to weight ratio
  • Modified motor to protect from and allow for wet feeds.
  • Decreased Cabinet size with NO LOSS of capacity. Combined with new packaging with reduced box size leading to dramatic shipping cost reduction.
  • A revamped control system full Plug & Play design. Broken down to three independent components making manufacturing and serviceability even better.
  • A new Discharge Chute design to address aggressive horse behavior was employed. A reusable breakaway mounting greatly minimizes the chance of Chute or equipment damage.
