Feeding your horse the right diet

Feeding your horse the right diet

A horse’s diet, or any animal for that matter, may change from time to time, and not every animal should be treated the same as the one in the neighboring stall. Many times this happens out of habit and convenience.

I recently read Laurie Bonner’s article from Equus Magazine, ‘Does your feeding program measure up?’,which brought to light how basic things, such as weather conditions, schedule, injuries, and health issues all play a part in a horse’s diet and weight.

It reminds me of why we created the X5-CD Auto-feeder in the first place, since we have a horse with special dietary needs, but it is just as important to treat each animal as an individual and make sure you keep an eye out for any significant changes in dietary needs.

One of the key things we considered when designing the X5-CD, was to allow for different feeds, as nutritional needs may require different amounts or types of feeds to best suit the needs of the horse for a particular dietary time. Laurie Bonner points out that there are new types of feeds all the time, and continues to explain proper storage, quality foods, and how to tell if foods you are offering are in fact still healthy for your horse to eat.

It’s a good read for anyone who would like to learn a little more about horse diets, health, and nutrition.
