The Equine Automation Model X5-CD Feed Dispenser, like other feeders is programmable to dispense on a preset schedule. What separates it from the pack is the ability to dispense varying portions and feed combinations, feed cycle to feed cycle. The X5-CD is suitable for indoor/outdoor use, battery operated and rechargeable. The X5-CD is a proven tool for helping horses with Insulin Resistance or Metabolic Syndrome disorders, in all cases providing a healthier feed regiment more closely mimicking the animals natural grazing tendencies. Feed capabilities include Grain (up to 30lbs), Hay Cubes (up to 20lbs), Chopped Forage (up to 10lbs) and Supplements. Does the X5-CD come with a warranty?
Yes. The unit comes with a one year warranty covering any defects in workmanship or materials. Equine Automation, LLC will repair all material and workmanship defects free of charge for (1) year after the date of purchase. Battery is considered a wear item and has a (1) year replacement warranty. The warranty does not cover damage, losses, or injury caused by unauthorized repairs, alterations, improper connection, shipping, abuse, theft, neglect or collateral loss. In most cases a repair can be handled without returning the unit to the factory. The Feeder is designed to be modular, meaning that with basic hand tools, most repairs can be field serviceable. Only shipping expenses related to warranty issues are cover by Equine Automation, LLC. Please contact Equine Automation, LLC for authorization prior to shipping any components.How much does the X5-CD weigh?
The X5-CD unit weighs about 50 lbs. With packaging material, the shipping weight is roughly 60 lbs.Do I need any special skills to program the X5-CD?
No, the process is very similar to setting a typical alarm clock.How does the X5-CD ship?
The unit ships UPS in a 26” x 26” x 24”box and packed in an engineered foam packaging material.
Upon delivery the unit will require some minor assembly. It comes with installation and operating instructions. Can I pick up my X5-CD vs ship?
For local buyers, we are happy to accommodate pickup to save on shipping. Please contact us in lieu of purchasing through the website. A pickup must be scheduled in advance, as we do not have a retail location, and these units are built to order.Is the X5-CD difficult to install?
Fence mounting is very quick, under an hour. Stall mounting may take a bit longer as a 6” x 12” opening will need to be created in order to deliver the feed into the stall. We've seen many customized installation photos sent in by customers, so install differs based on unique requirements.Is the X5-CD safe for my animals?
Absolutely. The operating system is very low voltage posing not shock risk to you or the animal. Since the unit is mounted either outside the stall or outside the paddock there is never any risk to your animal damaging the unit or themselves. The structure is fabricated from non toxic composites.Can the X5-CD cover my feed requirements if I need to travel, say overnight?
Yes. Feed can be set to dispense at any time you need. You simply verify the battery is charged and preload the unit with up to five feed loads. Set the dispense times as far in advance as necessary.How often does the X5-CD need to be programmed?
As long as the scheduled does not change, only once. Programming is only needed if there is a schedule change.Can I use the X5-CD to feed more then one animal?
The X5-CD will only dispense to one common point. It can feed multiple animals as long as the feed capacity is adequate and the animals being fed can share.What are the feeder’s capacities?
Three feeds, Grain, Hay cubes and Chopped Forage were evaluated; Grain / Pellet Style Feed – up to 30 lbs. Hay Cubes – up to 20 lbs. Chopped Forage – up to 10 lbs.What type of feed can the X5-CD dispense?
The X5-CD is the only automatic feeder that can do wet feed, in addition to grains, pellet style feed, hay cubes and chopped forage. In addition feeds can be mixed and changed daily as needed, proving to be very beneficial to an animal with special diet.What if I have no access to standard electricity?
Although the battery can be removed to bring it to where electricity is available, we offer an add-on solar panel option which would make the unit 100% maintenance free with respect to battery service. All you need is several hours of moderate to direct sunlight, several days a week. The solar panel feature can be factory installed at time of purchase or field installed by the owner at any time.Are there any special power requirements?
The feeder operates on a 12 volt rechargeable battery system. It runs without recharge for 3-5 weeks, a battery monitor is built into the LED display to notify you when it is time to plug in. Recharge is accomplished by simply connecting the charger to the unit and then plugging into a standard 110 volt outlet, typically for an overnight.Can I use the X5-CD outdoors?
Yes. The feeder is designed for indoor or outdoor use. It has been proven in temperatures ranging from 0-100°F and has been tested in snow, ice, rain and direct UV.We’ve had many people ask how we package and ship the unit. The unit is fully assembled and ready to install. We have customized padding to cushion the unit, hold it firmly in place, to prevent damage in transit. The boxes are double thickness durable cardboard to accommodate the weight and further reduce the possibility of damage during shipping. The unit itself is 20 x 20 x 20″ but the resulting shipped package is 27 x 27 x 24″ due to the materials used to safely ship each unit.
Important components of the feeder are secured safely within the unit. If damage were to occur in shipping, the units are insured, but in addition, the modular design allows for easily swapping damaged parts. Misty Meadow Farm in Durham, CT has been using the Equine Automation X5 Feed Dispenser for almost one year. It looks as good as the day we brought it home and it is exposed to New England weather! The battery life of this product is amazing as well.
This feeder has many uses. We most recently used the feeder to assist in the rehabilitation of several extremely thin rescued mares. The feeder allowed us to safely provide multiple small rations throughout the day to expedite weight gain safely and without worry. It also eliminates boredom, as the horses are intermittently alerted when they hear the next portion being offered.
I am extremely happy with this product and highly recommend it.
